Building a Blog with these 7 Easy Steps!

1. Pick a platform.

The first thing you will need to do is pick a platform from which to run your blog.  There are many choices out there including: Blogger, WordPress, Typepad, and Tumblr.  I personally love Typepad but I’m sure the other platforms are great too.

WordPress has long been the “de facto” platform for blogs, but this doesn’t mean it’s the right one for your website. Plenty of other platforms exist that can help you publish your content and are fine choices too. My advice is to research the other major platforms, see which one they enable you to do what you need to, and choose it instead. Once you have a platform chosen and installed, continue to step 2.

2. Choose a subject and tone.

You’re still deciding on a topic, and thinking about your writing style. You’ve decided to not be boring, but you don’t want to be too informal. What style should you choose? The first is formal tone.

Now that you’ve written your first draft, you may notice that it lacks a certain panache. That’s nothing new — crafting text with personality is a skill most writers have to develop over time. I would like to present you with some ways to personalize your writing . . .

3. Line up topics.

In this stage, you will start thinking about specific topics to blog about. Of course, it's best if you really know what your readers want to know about most. Ask yourself: "what problems do my readers have?" "what questions do they ask me the most?".

So now you know how to write a blog post. You’ve even written it, so what’s next? It’s time to do some research on the topic or topics for your blog post. It can be tempting to start writing about something that you know about without doing any research, but this can lead to problems later on.

4. Get the tech set up.

Before you start posting content to your website, you need to set up a few things. This step is just as important as every other step you take in setting up a website. Don't skip out on it.

Alright, the hardest part is behind you. You’ve got your hosting page, and from there you can install a blog with any of the software platforms I mentioned above. If you don’t need a blog or an online store, then all you have to do is log into your cPanel account, click the icon for Fantastico and then select one of the options listed there.

5. Set goals and schedule them out in advance.

Setting goals is a step that is often seemingly overlooked by most. This important step can seem daunting. A lot of us don’t know where to start. The worst case scenario is to have no goals at all and then aimlessly wonder around hoping things will improve. Take the time to set goals, write them down so you have a record and then schedule them out in advance.

Have you sat down to schedule out your goals for the following week? It could be a great way to make sure that you're productive, and it also leaves less room for your brain to play tricks on you. You will set yourself up so that it is easier to achieve your goals by scheduling them into your work day.

6. Write, write, write!

Writing is what separates a good blog from a great blog. Writing should be in the forefront of your mind any time you’re wondering what to write about. Both search engines and readers have come to expect interesting, thoughtful, and informative writing if they choose to spend their time with your blog. I recommend that you write quickly and to the point. Don't spend too much time agonizing over a piece of content. Remember, no post is so bad that it can't be improved by having some ice cream or taking a walk — leave it for awhile, then come back later and read it over before you decide whether it belongs on your site or not

You want to publish your blog posts on your own blog but do not quite know how to get started ... Or you want to write content for other sites but you are unsure of how to move forward ... These are all excellent reasons for writing your own articles, it is not by any means easy. However, there are great options that can help you get started.

7. Get to work on sharing your blog with everyone you know!

Turns out, not all of your friends were aware that you started a blog! Do you want to tell them? Of course, you do! Tell all of your friends – keep it simple, maybe a link to the blog or a post they might be interested in. Perhaps even an email? I don’t recommend you tell everyone about your blog by writing videos in construction helmets or putting on a silly moustache and talking to random people in public.
